Reasoning
Having a sports surface or a rink in your own back yard is a lot of fun.
The very best reason is to have the kids and their friends around the house at
all times instead of them hanging around dubious places. You’ll be able to
interact with the kids, which is invaluable. Your backyard sports floor will
be the attraction during parties, the gathering point after the food.
Practice, Practice...
If your kid wants to be good at a particular sport, he has to have a place to
practice every day and where better to do this than at home? It is a known
fact that professional sports greats grew up on the very place they became
famous for, be it the golf course, the tennis court, the basketball court, the
hockey rink – they had access all the time.
Simulates an Expensive Wood Floor
Suspended tile surfaces for backyards have been around for decades. Compared
to a concrete slab they are comfortable on the joints, have a cooling effect
and are quieter. They also prevent broken bones and scuffed skin. The surface
can be installed by any layman and is portable; so when you move, take the floor with you.
A sports floor must be solid, like an outdoor basketball court, a wooden dance
floor or an ice hockey rink. Our backyard tile floor was designed to have the
same rigid feel as an expensive wooden floor. To prevent theft, the tiles
click together easily, but do not pull apart very easy. IceCourt’s proven
expansion joints allows the floor to be left in place during all seasons, and
can be frozen over in winter.
Grid Designs
Virtually all common outdoor tiles are based on a grid design, catering for
tennis. Tennis is a big market and those surfaces need to be rough, so that
the fibrous tennis balls catch, spin and bounce high. While some of these
tiles are just a sharp-edged grid, others have various outgrowths or sharp
spikes protruding from the grid, mainly to make them rough for tennis.
Smooth Design
IceCourt backyard surface differs in that it has a smooth solid surface. These
tiles have a patented solid flat top, perforated with 30% holes for good
drainage and a tiny relief profile with pinheads on the surface, similar to
the IceCourt EXXESS, which is used for the roller hockey world championships.
Best in Class
IceCourt Backyard not only has a great skate wheel grip, it is comfortable to
the bare feet and also has a better shoe grip than any other suspended tile
surface when wet, such after a rain shower. When you fall on this smooth
surface, it does not scrape your skin, instead you simply slide. For these
reasons IceCourt Backyard surfaces are best suitable for inline hockey, ball
and racquet sports, such as badminton, basketball and volleyball, but not for
tennis.
